The following case studies are about real people, although I have changed their names to protect their privacy. Sara's storyThe SituationSara works in retail and has found it difficult to deal with customers all day long. She felt her discomfort was holding her back in her chosen career. The InterventionSara was guided to enact two simple tactics. 1. To deliberately smile more often and 2. To notice something special or nice about every customer, and mention it to them. The ResultSara's retail world was completely changed. Her confidence level soared as did her sales. Sam's StoryThe SituationAt social functions, Sam tries to make connections with new people, but found that others were often quick with a reason to excuse themselves from his company. The InterventionSam was guided to become aware of the messages his body language and words were sending to others. He worked to form simple new habits and to adopt and show a positive attitude. The ResultSam found that people started to stick around longer and wanted to engage with him. Raj's StoryThe SituationRaj found that he was always going along with other people's ideas and plans, and was missing out on doing what he wanted to do and doing it his way. The InterventionRaj was coached to use the strategy "ask for what you want". He practised purposefully adding comments and suggestions to his friend's conversations, in order to try to make his opinions heard. The ResultRaj has much more control over what he does and how he spends his time. |
